Domain Group is a wholly owned business of Fairfax Media, a major newspaper publisher in Australia, primarily operating the property portal domain.com.au and associated real-estate industry businesses. Fairfax branded their real-estate sections in print with the Domain brand and first established an online presence in 1999.<ref name="domain">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> Since then the Domain Group has grown from the real-estate portal domain.com.au into Australia's second largest real-estate marketing business with 90% market penetration,<ref name="rebonline">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> competing directly with REA Group.<ref name="fool">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref name="theaustralian">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

The Domain Group consists of a portfolio of businesses<ref name="domain2">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> including:

  • The home listings portal domain.com.au
  • The commercial property portal commercialrealestate.com.au
  • An agency CRM and listings management system called My Desktop
  • APM Pricefinder, a property data business whose products focus on modelling projected values of real estate for investors, agents and financial institutions
  • Metro Media Publishing Group (MMP), which was fully acquired by Fairfax Media in January 2015<ref name="fairfaxmedia">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation

|CitationClass=web }}</ref> and consolidated into the Domain Group.

In February 2015, the Australian Financial Review published an article highlighting Credit Suisse analyst expectations of a likely float of the Domain Group in the future, and attributed an AUD $1.3 billion valuation to the group.<ref name="afr">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
