History An early form of centerfire ammunition, without a percussion cap, was invented betweeen 1808 and 1812 by Jean Samuel Pauly.<ref>https://repository.si.edu/bitstream/handle/10088/2410/SSHT-0011_Lo_res.pdf?sequence=2&isAllowed=y.</ref> This was also the first fully integrated cartridge. True centerfire ammunition was invented by the Frenchman Clement Pottet in 1829.<ref>http://firearmshistory.blogspot.co.uk/2010/05/cartridges-centerfire-cartridge.html</ref><ref>https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=hLBTkNZ8U44C&pg=PA29&lpg=PA29&dq=Pottet+1829&source=bl&ots=bAuAgyFUnr&sig=lwx6LOx0kUn-4RklxEqxK5ozERY&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CCIQ6AEwAGoVChMI4bOX5-yWyAIVxtEUCh1lnwQN#v=onepage&q=Pottet%201829&f=false</ref> However, Pottet would not perfect his design until 1855. The centerfire cartridge was improved by Charles Lancaster, George Morse, Francois Schneider, Hiram Berdan and Edward Mounier Boxer.<ref>https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=hLBTkNZ8U44C&pg=PA29&lpg=PA29&dq=Pottet+1855&source=bl&ots=bAuAfCDZkt&sig=NRLT1YTtrlCtsF1AA2xFpQ8VEQY&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CCIQ6AEwAGoVChMIhd6hzIeVyAIVhEIUCh2Z-AZk#v=onepage&q=Pottet%201855&f=false</ref>
