Woody Herman Shaw, Jr. (December 24, 1944 – May 10, 1989) was an American virtuoso trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornetist, composer and band leader, described by NPR Music as "the last great trumpet innovator".<ref name="NPR Article">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
