Wood County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 41,964.<ref name="QF">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> Its county seat is Quitman.<ref name="GR6">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> The county was named for George T. Wood, governor of Texas from 1847 to 1849.<ref name=TSHA>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
