San Francisco Leslie was first recorded in San Francisco in 1878, where he was employed as a barkeeper in Thomas Boland's saloon at 311 Pine Street. He lived in San Francisco at 732 Howard Street.<ref>1878 San Francisco City Directory, p. 515</ref> In 1879 he was a "bookkeeper," which may have been a typo for "barkeeper," since he worked at Kerr & Jurado's Saloon & Billiard Room.<ref>1879 San Francisco City Directory, p. 527</ref> The next year he was again listed as a barkeeper in the same establishment and was living at 746 Folsom Street.<ref>1880 San Francisco City Directory, p.546</ref> In mid-1880, he moved to Tombstone, Arizona.
