It was released in vinyl format on September 17, 1996 and in compact disc format on October 1, 1996<ref name="toolshed.down.net"/><ref name="ReferenceA"/><ref>Toolshed.down.net</ref> through Zoo Entertainment. The album was recorded and cut at Ocean Way, Hollywood and The Hook, North Hollywood from 1995 to 1996. The album was produced by David Bottrill.

The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart upon its initial release, and was certified triple platinum by the RIAA on March 4, 2003.<ref name="Theiner">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> The album appeared on several lists of the best albums of 1996,<ref name="acclaimedaenima">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> including that of Kerrang!<ref name="Kerrang!
